I have Multiple Sclerosis, it’s not a big deal for me, because each morning I stick myself with a needle and shoot some magic drugs into my fat. Those drugs keep me walking, talking and working, a productive member of society. I have a great wife who works an office job so we have insurance and I can play artiste. Today I got the MS Connection from the Multiple Sclerosis Society. It’s headline,
“HEALTH CARE REFORM USHERS IN A NEW ERA FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH MS”
It then covers the next 4 years and the changes for the better that it’s going to make for all the people with MS, it’s an end to the fear and pains of dealing with Insurance Companies doing everything they can to kill you. It’s a real level of peace of mind for people with MS. It’s what Government is supposed to do for you , make every one’s life better, not just the rich a-holes of Wall Street. Not just the Rand Paul’s who suck at the tit of Government handouts but try and kill it’s benefits for all of the rest of us.
It’s what Democrats do for people and damn it, today I’m really proud of my President and my party.
Carabella finally spills the beans to Nick, will he be a sensitive guy? Pr is starting to hit the web and people are mentioning Carabella that it’s going to be released in San Diego. It’s weird to come back to print comics and find they have fully embraced the web. Haunted man and Spiderman Online where so early in the web they have been wiped out of all the histories of comics and web comics. it’s like we never did those and they didn’t exist. So I’ve been drawing porn. Not porn comics, but literally doing drawings from video from an alt porn site. Not inflated tan blonds, but girls, obviously legal age, but like models you would get in a life drawing class, only doing naughty things. Now I’m really a dirty old man. I probably shouldn’t be doing this, even if artist from the walls of Pompeii on have done it, I got a kid, teach, have a wife, do political work, but it’s a really interesting way to get active bodies doing something sexy that isn’t pin-ups. I admit it while I can see the value of pin-up/cheesecake art it doesn’t hit me in that spot. It’s really hard imagining a Vargas woman being able to hold a conversation and I like smart women.
Then I’m taking my drawings and making them into abstractions. It’s a challenge because I don’t really think of myself as an abstract artist, nor am I a real cartoonist any more. So in the end I have to draw just based on my primal instincts of what i want the drawing to look like. It’s really hard to sit with some scribbles and have no pre-conceived idea of what your trying to do. I’m not even trying to reference De Kooning’s work in this. I’m just trying to draw based on what I like as drawing. The sex grounds it in even something more primal then making marks on a page. But I’m trying to find that thing I responded to in Barry Smith’s Red Nails , Jeff Jones’s Idyl or Elsworth Kelly’s paintings
